Times Square: ink drawings (Gepeng Dewantoro)

I am thrilled to present these two drawings by Bandung (Indonesia)-based artist, Gepeng Dewantoro.  These works were especially commissioned for this blog and each is ink on card (8×10″).  For the work above, I asked Gepeng to follow his inspiration regarding Times Square (1980); for the drawing below, I requested that he illustrate Nicky’s radio station “breakdown” scene.

I dislike description or explications of visual works when they appear to (make an attempt to) circumscribe a response to that text, so I hope this is not an imposition: I love these drawings because, like their filmic inspiration, they are an intricate and beautiful interweaving of disparate elements.

Thank you, Gepeng!
